If you're looking for information about Geerd-Dietger Hoffmann, you have come to the right place, but because no one can pronounce my name everyone calls me Didi.

I am currently undertaking a PhD in Distributed Databases at the Technical University Berlin (DIMA) and am working on the MIA Project. MIA tries to create a highly scalable analytic cloud framework which enables people and companies to run jobs on petabytes of annotated and indexed data. My research is mainly focused on "low level" distributed indexing of annotated information. Before that I completed my Bachelor at Bournemouth University and my Master at University College London both with a first class honours. Besides my PhD, I also have my own company RebelProject. If I am not hacking around in some program I like repairing cars (I have a Beetle from 1070) and bikes, smoking Cigars (I am a member of the Berliner Cigarren Club Unter den Linden e.V), reading news and collecting books, Real Ale, Snowboarding, going to the gym, doing voluntary work at the Drogennotdienst and of course travelling. I am currently also involved in a start-up in the area of private equity (with more information to come soon, first beta will be ready in about Jan 2012).

I am quite involved in OpenSource and enjoy talking and going to conferences around the world. I am currently the chief editor of the CentOS Newsletter and otherwise quite active in the CentOS community. But I also do may other things please see the Project section for more details. My topic of interest varies, as I like to explore new things but currently I am interested in compilers, again. Also, I am the creator of the award winning objic programing language which started my endeavour into Cloud Computing.
